Excerpts from November: How Can I Express My Gratitude?
The cold of winter begins to set in this month. Our wardrobes change to sweaters and boots, and our beds need an extra blanket. We light our fireplaces, bundle up, and seek warmth and coziness. Turning the calendar reminds us of upcoming holidays and family and friend gatherings. It’s a perfect time to express gratitude to all who bless you, especially through remembering them in your prayers and declarations.
Thankfulness is a powerful weapon, along with prayers, declarations, decrees, praise, and worship. In keeping with an emphasis on thanksgiving and blessing, the weeks ahead will focus on righteous local, state, and federal elections, our God for His many blessings, our family and friends, our mentors and spiritual leaders, and the generations we serve.
November 9: Thank You, Yaweh-Yireh
Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh which means “the LORD will provide”.
To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.” (Genesis 22:14, NLT)
Perhaps the greatest test of Abraham’s faith was the demanded sacrifice of his son, Isaac. Abraham’s message to the servants accompanying them to Mount Moriah is sometimes missed. He told them they were going to worship but would return. Obedience is where the rubber meets the road. You know God’s character. He is good, kind, loving, and always wants what’s best for you. God called Abraham to make a sacrifice, but God provided the ram. Trust Him to provide His best for you too.
Thank You, Yahweh-Yireh, for providing everything I need.
November 10: Thank You, Yaweh-Shalom
And Gideon built an altar to the LORD there and named it Yahweh-Shalom which means “the LORD is peace”. (Judges 6:24, NLT)
When the Lord appeared to Gideon to call him to champion the fight against the Midianites, he doubted and tested the angel of the Lord. When he realized it was the Lord, he cried out in great fear because he’d seen the Lord face-to-face. The Lord reassured him, and Gideon built an altar of worship to acknowledge God’s peace. In the deepest, darkest of times, when doubt rises up, there is only one solution for you: call upon the Lord, who is peace.
Thank You, Yahweh-Shalom, for being my peace.
November 11: Thank You, Yahweh-Nissi
Moses built an altar there and named it Yahweh-Nissi which means “the LORD is my banner”. (Exodus 17:15, NLT)
Moses commanded Joshua to battle the Amalekites. Moses climbed a hill and watched Joshua in the valley. As long as Moses’s hands were lifted in prayer, Joshua succeeded. When he tired and lowered his hands, Israel lost ground. Aaron and Hur then sat Moses down, held up his hands, and the battle was won. Just like Moses, you honor the Lord when you affirm His rule, His righteousness, and His call upon your life. And sometimes, He covers us with others He sent to our aid.
Thank You, Yahweh-Nissi, for covering me with Your might and mercy.
November 12: Thank You, Yahweh-Rapha
If you will listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the LORD who heals you.
(Exodus 15:26, NLT)
The Lord made this covenant agreement with Israel in the wilderness. Israel witnessed all ten plagues in Egypt, but only three affected them. The Lord’s hand of protection was upon them. You serve a mighty God of miracles who desires to protect, shield, and heal His children.
Thank You, Yahweh-Rapha, my God, who heals my body, spirit, and soul.
November 13: Thank You, Yahweh-Chereb
How blessed you are, O Israel! Who else is like you, a people saved by the LORD? He is your protecting shield and your triumphant sword! Your enemies will cringe before you, and you will stomp on their backs! (Deuteronomy 33:29, NLT)
When you have a battle to face, who do you want to lead you? None other than the Lord, the Sword. His Word is alive, active, and more powerful than a two-edged sword. Your most potent weapons are what He’s said to you and His promises in His Word. How marvelous is His sword that always leads you in triumph!
Thank You, Yahweh-Chereb, for Your triumphant sword.
